Derde sessie van die Vergadering van die Partye (MOP3) gehou in Panama City om onwettige tabakhandel te bekamp, word afgesluit met Panama-verklaring wat 'n beroep op nasionale regerings doen om versigtig te wees vir die onophoudelike veldtog deur die tabakbedryf en diegene wat werk om sy belange te bevorder om pogings te ondermyn om onwettige handel in tabakprodukte uit te skakel.
The Third session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP3) to the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products has concluded after taking decisive action to combat illicit trade in tobacco products that harms gesondheid and robs national governments of tax revenues that could support openbare gesondheid initiatives. The MOP3 session was held in Panama City from 12 February 2024 to 15 February 2024.
The Meeting of the Parties (MOP) is the governing body of the Protocol, which is an internasionale treaty that entered into force in 2018 aims to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products through a package of measures to be taken by countries acting in cooperation with one another. The Protocol is overseen by Secretariat of WIE Raamwerkkonvensie oor Tabakbeheer (FCTC).
Ongeoorloofde handel in tabakprodukte maak ongeveer 11% van die totale globale tabakhandel uit, en die uitskakeling daarvan kan wêreldwye belastinginkomste jaarliks met 'n geraamde VS$47.4 miljard verhoog.
Verteenwoordigers van 56 partye by die protokol en 27 nie-Partystate het van 12 tot 15 Februarie 2024 by Panama vergader om 'n reeks kwessies aan te pak van vordering met die implementering van die verdrag tot volhoubare finansiering vir tabakbeheer.

The Third session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP3) adopted the Panama Declaration that calls on national governments to be wary of the ceaseless campaign by the tabak industry and those working to further its interests to undermine efforts to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products.
Die Panama-verklaring het ook die behoefte aan effektiewe optrede beklemtoon om onwettige handel in tabakprodukte te voorkom en te bekamp, wat 'n omvattende internasionale benadering tot - en noue samewerking oor - alle aspekte van onwettige handel in tabak, tabakprodukte en tabakvervaardigingstoerusting vereis.
